Safety Suite Software UI
A new way of monitoring safety in real time
The challenge
To design a centralised software (on-premise or cloud) that can remotely monitor assets and worker safety in real time and help save lives, utilising the power of connectivity.
Research showed that there were multiple systems connecting some assets to software but with very little synergy or focus on worker safety. The task was to create a system that could monitor aspects of worker safety, connected equipment, compliance, improve situational awareness, and create efficiencies in the workflow.

The solution
Observations of customers were made in their locations (UK & Netherlands) to better understand their processes and pain-points and identify the personas and requirements.
Visiting the software engineering team and Offering Managers in China for PI planning sessions, helped to gain agreement and enthusiasm for the designs and build a rapport with key stakeholders.
I designed a customisable UI that allows the user to change the display's polarity to best fit their lighting conditions, interact with tiles on the dashboard to prioritise the information, and drill-down to a more granular level of detail amongst many other features.
User experience was intrinsic to the design – solving problems by understanding the user's goals and how to achieve them with efficient interactions, consistent patterns, information architecture, usability, data visualisation and aesthetic elegance.

The results
A successful launch of Safety Suite software in short timescales - eagerly received by customers and the fully customisable dashboard was considered “excellent” by Shell.
Users are able to clearly see the things that are important at a level of detail that’s right for them, delivered via a cohesive design system and visually engaging environment. Safety managers are made aware of incidents the moment they happen and can respond with urgency.
